U.S. General Speaks to Afghan CadetsU.S. General Speaks to Afghan Cadets:
KABUL, Afghanistan, June 12, 2006 – The commander of Combined Forces Command Afghanistan spoke to the cadets of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan here today about leadership, vision and character development.

U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry told the first two cadet classes of the academy what a great honor it was to be standing in front of the future leaders of Afghanistan. He said they live in a country torn apart by almost three decades of war and must dedicate themselves to change if they want a better future.

"Your country and army face a time of great change and opportunity," Eikenberry said. "You must decide what your destination is and what the best way is to move forward."

Iraqi Police Station is One of the BestIraqi Police Station is One of the Best:
AD DAWR, Iraq, June 13, 2006 — The Talix Saiba Iraqi Police Station is a large two-story powder-blue building that is riddled with bullet holes, but inside the building are some of Iraq’s most dedicated police officers.

"We do better than our best,
otherwise the insurgents will kill us.
We all have families to go home to."
- Talix Saiba Police Station Executive Officer

Military Police officers from the 978th Military Police Company from Fort Bliss, Texas, attached to the 2/9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, are serving as a Police Transition Team (PTT) and recently paid a visit to the station. According to Sgt. Daniel Burrows, Police Transition Team Logistics Coordinator, their mission is to conduct an assessment of the station’s strengths and weaknesses and train the station’s police officers how to sustain themselves after Coalition Forces are long gone. “We go out to the stations and check on weapons and the security of the site,” he said.

U.S. Air Force Col. Scott Vander HammU.S. Air Force Col. Scott Vander Hamm:
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, June 13, 2006 — Col. Scott Vander Hamm, 40th Air Expeditionary Group commander, surpassed the 4,000-hours flying mark with his B-1 flight June 10.

Reaching the 4,000-hour mark is a big achievement for any aviator, noted Lt. Col. Harry Foster, 40th AEG deputy commander.

“That’s equivalent to spending more than four months in the air,” said Foster, who has logged more than 2,000 hours in four different aircraft. “It’s more significant because of the number of planes Colonel Vander Hamm has flown. It’s a milestone that few achieve.”
