Are you conservative? Maybe not...if, like Barack Obama, you think that having hope is daring, bold and courageous...

Barack Obama - websiteThe bright young face - rising star - of the Democratic Party...Barack Obama.

Are You Conservative has some thoughts about his new book called "The Audacity of Hope":
...For these four words, strung together in this particular configuration, conjure up images of a society so oppressive that hope requires nads the size of bowling balls.

You'd think we were living in Stalinist Russia, or Saddam Hussein's Iraq. The big tip-off that we're not, however, is that under those regimes, audacious titles would never make it to press, or make millionaires of their authors.

It is his work as an author that has made him a millionaire.
A $1.9 million advance allowed him to pay off law school loans,
wipe away debt from previous political campaigns and trade his
condo near Hyde Park for a historic home nearby.

"How could I have managed this," he once lamented,
"if I could not have written books?"

Good question.

So why would a public figure of Senator Obama's stature want to perpetuate a myth that hope for non-millionaires lies in audacity - instead of strong moral fiber, a good education, structure, and self-discipline? (All things that Senator Obama, no doubt, benefited from).

Isn't this liberal POV, that we're living in a some kind of a gulag, and that our only hope is brazen rebellion (similar to what we're seeing in the streets of Paris), somewhat, how do you say, counterproductive?

Perhaps a better title for a book which espouses unduly divisive views fabricated for political gain would be "The Hope of Audacity."
Very nice AYC...how dare we conservatives suppress hope...stamp down faith...squeeeeeeze everything we can out of the "little guy". He's got us! (the book title seems to have been around since '94 ...here and here)

I need to read before judging, but I find it difficult to expect much more than pandering, cliches and more pandering. It doesn't seem to get old...for the givers or the receivers in this country. Hopefully the tide of awareness is turning as the silent conservative majority starts to not be so silent.

Here's a glowing review of Obama from Harvard Political Review.

Sidebar...Republicans in the Senate better watch out. This immigration debacle is their worst nightmare according to Bob Novak, and Bush isn't helping.
